The Secret Service held a news conference to outline a report on mass attacks in 2018. The Secret Service director told reporters there were 27 incidents in that calendar year with half of the perpetrators motivated by a grievance and two-thirds were mentally ill. Following the director's remarks, the chief of the Secret Service's National Threat Assessment Center, which conducts the study, provided more details on the commonalities of the incidents. The center found that most mass attacks occurred at places of work. The study also included the mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida high school as well as two other school shootings.
